The Fifth Taste

ONE of the many ways I like to judge my food is by asking myself  "Was this worth what I paid for?" At twelve dollars a burger the expectations for this one were high. And boy did this burger not disappoint.
Umami Burger has a delicious hamburger called The Earth Burger. In it is a mushroom and edamame patty, white soy aioli, truffled ricotta cheese, cipollini onions, butter lettuce and slow-roasted tomato. You might be thinking, geeze for that price this burger sure looks small and bare. And well, it is..but one bite of it and all your doubts and hesitations melt away as the patty too melts in your mouth. Everything in this burger just compliment each other, that thinking of substituting any one ingredient in it could create an unbalance in the universe. Ok I might be exaggerating, but eating this burger sure made me happy. The truffled ricotta cheese gave it a nice sweet taste that lingered in your mouth as you get ready to take a another bite, the patty was a nice consistency that was soft enough to melt in your mouth but didn't fall apart.  And while it might look small...5 hours later I am still full.

What To Eat, What to Eat!

Drive-Thru! Del Taco's bean and cheese burritos are good when its late and we are in our PJ's. Bean and cheese burritos with a side of french fries. Get the works and it's a bean and cheese burrito with lettuce and onions. Opt out of the cheese and its a vegan burrito. The fries are either too salty or not salty enough but hey its fast food, can't be too picky. Red sauce or Green? Red please. The green reminds me too much of enchilada sauce which overpowers the burrito and does not mix well with the inferno hot sauce. That and the green sauce is way too salty for my (loopeh) taste. It's cheap, its fast and it satisfies our hunger.

Who We Are...

 Why Start This Blog?

This blog isn't about going vegetarian it is about discovering new eating places and re-discovering old through your veggies because veggies get jealous of being side dishes! It is about discovering how easy it is to say yes to veggies even when the odds are against you. And how special you too can feel when that restaurant makes the exception just for you haha. It's about eating good and eating your veggies too.

So vegetarian, eh?

For me being a vegetarian has been a personal and political choice. Growing up where a meal isn't a meal without meat, getting to be a full time vegetarian has been a long journey of failed attempts.  As a vegetarian sometimes I feel like someone who has been to rehab. "Been sober for 5 years and still going strong." Although, sometimes when I'm really hungry and watching the food channel that meat still tempts me.

and then there was The Sidekick....

About Ari:

Full time Vegeterian and Caffeine Addict

Philosophy: There isn't such a thing as ordering 'too much'.

Unlike my sister, I just can't stay away from cheese: pepper jack, swiss, gouda, you name it- It's all good!

I like to start with dessert first and work my way up to the main course....what I call living on the edge.

 So why start blogging?

Plain and simple, we just want to chronicle our eating adventures. What I like to call worldly vegetarian cuisines on a budget (with a few exceptions). Like my sister said, we are not here to convert people to vegetarianism. We just want to show that being a (or eating) vegetarian doesn't always equate to a boring routine of just salads! There are so many delicious options nowadays that we thought it was time to shine some light on all those meals. So put on your fatty pants and join us in our quest to discover the best veggie dishes!
